Impaired Sight: An entirely literal variation on the theme of colorblindness. Selena (Elizabeth Hartman) lost her sight as a child and lives with her violent mother and alcoholic grandfather in oppressive conditions. At the park, she gets to know a Black journalist named Gordon (Sidney Poitier) and falls in love with him. Gordon helps her find her way into a self-determined life. The happy end suggested by Poitier was prevented by the unalterable rules of the racist society (and film industry) of the 60s.
